Village to Unveil Sandy Volunteer Monument at Shore Road Park

Ceremony will also feature a food and toy drive to benefit families in the area.

The Village of Lindenhurst will unveil a monument at Shore Road Park dedicated to the volunteers that came together to help their neighbors in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy last October.

The monument will be revealed on Sunday, October 27 at 1 p.m. at Shore Road Park.

“After Hurricane Sandy brought havoc to our communities, hundreds of volunteers from right here in Lindenhurst to literally around the world, stepped up and gave countless hours of time and personal resources to help their neighbors," Deputy Mayor Kevin McCaffrey said in a statement.  "The Village of Lindenhurst is proud and honored to acknowledge the efforts of these volunteers with this dedication."

The event will also feature a food drive in support of Long Island Cares and a toy drive in support of the Marine Corps.' Toys for Tots program.

"We are asking everyone to bring non-perishable food items and/or an un-wrapped toy to the dedication to continue helping our neighbors in need now and in the future," added McCaffrey.

Donatable items can include traditional Thanksgiving foods, as well as personal care items or pet food.

Shore Road Park was the home to many of the relief efforts in SoMo (South of Montauk) following the storm last October. Camp Bulldog was the main "tenant" of the area, providing warm meals and support for families as they began the long road to rebuilding in the area.

If you have any questions about the event, village officials urge you to contact Lindenhurst Village Hall at (631) 957-7500.
