Voter's Guide: Lindenhurst 2018-19 School Budget, Board Election

What you need to know for election day.

Residents in the Lindenhurst School District will vote on the district's $160,671,302 proposed budget for the 2018-19 school year on Tuesday, May 15.

The proposal calls for a 1.03 percent increase in spending over the current year and the tax levy increase is 3.68 percent, which is still within the tax levy cap.

Residents will also have an opportunity to elect three members to the Lindenhurst Board of Education for three-year terms starting on July 1 as well as one member for a two-year term.

Incumbents Mary Ellen Cunningham, Kevin Garbe and Donna Hochman will be seeking re-election.

Gabrielle Anzalone and Josephine Martino will be running for the seat previously held by trustee Edward J. Murphy Jr.

The winner of that seat would serve as trustee effective immediately until June 30, 2020, the remainder of Murphy’s term.

In addition, residents will also voting on whether or not to approve the formation of a new capital reserve fund.

Polls will be open from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. at Albany Avenue, Daniel Street, Harding Avenue and William Rall elementary schools as well as Lindenhurst Middle School.
