Woman Killed In Suffolk County House Fire

The first floor of the home was fully engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived Saturday morning.

AMITYVILLE, NY – A 43-year-old woman was killed and her husband was injured in a house fire in Suffolk County Saturday morning.

Officers from the Amityville Police Department and members of the Amityville Fire Department responded to a call of a house fire at 58 Locust Drive at 9:15 a.m., Suffolk Police said.

Members of the North Amityville, Massapequa and Copiague fire departments along with the Wyandanch Wheatley Heights Ambulance Corporation also responded.

A resident of the home, Rufina Sarkar, was pronounced dead at the scene by a physician’s assistant from the Office of the Suffolk County Medical Examiner. Her husband, Gopal Sarkar, 47, was transported to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip for treatment of minor injuries.

The cause of the fire appears non-criminal at this time, police said.
