Woman Struck Pedestrian With Car, Left Scene: Police

The pedestrian was seriously injured after being struck by a car driven by the 67-year-old woman on Saturday night, police said.

COPIAGUE, NY - A Copiague woman was arrested for leaving the scene of a crash that seriously injured a pedestrian in Copiague on Saturday night, according to Suffolk Police.

Sagrario Lopez-Escobar, 67, was driving a 2005 Toyota Sequoia westbound on 43rd Street, near Atlantic Street, when the car struck a man walking in the roadway at 10:30 p.m., police said.

Lopez-Escobar then left the scene in the Sequoia, police said.

The victim, who has yet to be identified by police, was transported to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip with serious injuries.

Lopez-Escobar and was apprehended and arrested a short time later at her home, police said. The Sequoia was impounded.

Detectives charged Lopez-Escobar with leaving the scene of an accident involving personal injury, police said.
