The woman was taken to the hospital after the crash, and is listed in critical condition, while police began an investigation, police said. That investigation would reveal that 24-year-old Niall Duignan had been driving the van while intoxicated, police said.

Following the investigation, Duignan was arrested and faces charges of second-degree vehicular assault and DWI, police said.

Police did not identify the 78-year-old woman Friday.
