LONG BEACH, NY — Mount Sinai South nassau hospital held its sixth annual Long Beach Boardwalk Health Fair Saturday, giving walkers the chance to learn about their health and wellness without leaving the sunshine.

Spearheaded by the hospital’s Department of Community Education, the fair was part of an ongoing effort to keep the public healthy and prepare people for the moment someone else might need their help.

As part of that effort, Mount Sinai South Nassau officials gave 329 health screenings for everything from balance testing and sleep assessments to cancer screenings and cholesterol risk. The fair also allowed for the training of 35 Long Beach residents in CPR, 55 residents in stopping bleeding, and 10 residents in the use and administration of Narcan kits.

In total, the hospital said over 600 people visited one of the more than 25 stalls at the fair, but the public health efforts aren’t done for the summer. Hospital officials said the department’s Community Wellness Center will be open at 106 Boardwalk all summer, offering education and screening events into the early fall. Residents interested in attending can contact the department of community education at 516-377-5333.
