Long Beach Medical Center Honors Volunteers

Long Beach Medical Center honored approximately 150 volunteers and junior volunteers on June 21 as part of the 58th annual Volunteer Awards Ceremony, according to a release from the medical center.

Volunteer of the Year went to Estelle Wolf, who was also honored with the Nat Cantor Memorial Award. Wolf has been a volunteer for 26 years as part of the Friendly Visitor Bikur Cholim program.

Scholarships were also presented to members of the Future Physicians Club and Junior Volunteers during the ceremony for graduating seniors. The Future Physicians Club gives high school students a chance to get experience in medical careers. The Junior Volunteers give assistance to staff and patients throughout the facility. Sophie Corwin received a $500 Future Physicians Club Scholarship Award, Nicole Robins was awarded a $500 Individual Service Awards Scholarship and Sophia Xu was presented the $250 Gloria Nicolosi Auxiliary Scholarship. Student of the Year went to Shannon Romig at the celebration.

“Our volunteers are remarkable individuals,” said CEO Douglas Melzer in the press release.  “Their contributions are invaluable to both our patients and our staff and I am pleased to recognize their efforts.”
