Bicyclist Dies After Being Hit By Car: Nassau Police

The man was killed on Austin Boulevard, which locals have long said is a dangerous road.

A bicyclist was killed after he was hit by a car on Austin Boulevard in Island Park Monday night.

According to police, a 65-year-old man was riding his bicycle west on Emerson Place, at the intersection of Austin Boulevard, when he was hit by a 2015 Ford Explorer that was heading south on Austin Boulevard.

The bicyclist suffered multiple traumatic injuries and was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead by doctors.

The driver, a 59-year-old man, stayed at the scene. The car was impounded for a safety check.

Police have not yet released the identity of the bicyclist. The investigation is ongoing.
