City Uses Taxpayer Money For Campaigning

Long Beach Taxpayers should be outraged at the manner in which city hall is wasting our taxpayer money to fund their political campaign for city council.

Whether it's completely unnecessary newsletters sent to every home just before election day or annoying recorded phone calls from Scott Mandell or Jack Scheenrman they all cost taxpayers money and in the end we all pay pay for it with our property taxes.

A newsletter sent to every home in the city costs about $4000. Every phone call to each home and every cell phone costs .4 cents a call! I personally got 3 calls on my home phone and 3 on my cell on Friday from "City Council President Scott Mandell." Each call, which I hung up on each time, costs taxpayers .16 cents. If the city called thousands of cell phones that day, that was a lot of wasted taxpayer money!

But the picture above is the most outrageous example of them all. The picture is from the city's official Facebook page and the city's website. It shows City Council President Scott Mandell, and council member Eileen Goggen, who are both currently on the city council and who are both up for election on election day. It also show Anthony Eramo who is NOT currently on the City Council but who is running for the seat and he is on the ballot this election day with Mandell on Goggin on the Democratic ticket.

How is it possible that city hall and the Democrats can use our hard earned money for the purpose of campaigning for the democratic candidates?  I saw the Republican candidates at the ceremony.  Is it a coincidence that their pictures are not anywhere on the Facebook page or city website?

In these economic times shouldn't city hall be using our hard earned tax dollars more wisely?

Think about that ion election day next week especially when our taxes went up over 16%in the past two years.

PS- For the Record, I am a registered Republican and I will be voting for the Republicans. But I did vote for the Democrats two years ago. Not this time however and it is for reason like this waste of taxpayer money that I am not supporting the Democrats this year! This is a brazen example of using taxpayer money to forward your political agenda and its wrong!
