His Pants Were Taller Than Me!

We walk the boards and beach never knowing what legends walk with us.

When we walk our Long Beach boardwalk or shore we come upon others. They stroll along as fellow trekkers, but also fellow travelers on this globe. We may nod and smile, never knowing their stories, nor they ours.

What started them on their journeys through life? What influenced them?

We might ask the same of ourselves. Who touched us in such a way as to cause us to take this path over that one? And once choosing that path, was it the right one? Did we make a difference? Can we still make a difference? Can we guide others as we were guided? Or were never guided?

I spoke to a Long Beach man who when in high school didn’t know what to do with his life, while those around him knew exactly what path to take. He seemed adrift until someone spoke to him.

He took that suggested course and found it delightful. So much so that he told me, “I had fun for sixty three years.” He also found that he made a difference in those he too spoke to, just as he was spoken to.

Maybe we can learn something from each other, if not for our lives, then maybe for the lives we touch.

I’d like you to meet the man who said,
