WaxVending - A Surfer's Dream If you surf or know someone who surfs, you know that wax is a critical component of the sport and is one of the few essential ingredients that make surfing possible. Yet, surfers often find themselves stripped of wax when they need it most, in the early morning hours when surf shop doors are closed and the waves are pumping. To remedy this issue, Long Beach local Jacob Spilberg launched WaxVending, a company dedicated to the production of mechanical surf wax vending machines to be installed outside surf shops. There are currently 5 prototype machines installed on Long Island (2 in Long Beach outside of Long Beach Surf Shop and Unsound Surf). With hundreds of surfers already taking advantage of these machines, Jacob has been in contact with over 40 surf shops on the East Coast that have reviewed the terms and requested that a WaxVending machine be installed on their property. The only problem is, there aren't any machines left!
How You Can Help
Vending machines are expensive and having just one custom made would cost a small fortune. The only way to make WaxVending a reality is to manufacture in bulk. In Jacob's case, the minimum run imposed by the manufacturer is 50 machines! Even then, these puppies aren't cheap, so he intended to launch the project on Kickstarter.com. For unknown reasons Jacob was denied the privilege of using this platform to raise the necessary funds. Kickstarter told us no, but the entire surfing world is saying yes, so Jacob chose to go it alone and raise funds through a pledge page on his own website: http://waxvending.com/pledge_page.html
