Long Beach Topples Westbury 32-21 in Regular Season Finale

Marines finish season as Conference II fifth seed with 5-3 record.

Long Beach relied on their ground game to cap off their regular season with a 32-21 win over Westbury (4-4) at Veterans Memorial Field on Saturday.

Long Beach grinded out four touchdowns on the ground, with

running back Damon Whitfield scoring three and quarterback Tom Rowley rushing for game's first six points.

Whitfield wracked up 259 yards on 27 carries, while Rowley attempted just nine passes, completing five for a combined 84 yards to Sam Pereless, Lorenzo Torres and Cedrick Coad.

The Marines had a 15-0 lead at halftime, but allowed the Green Dragons back in the game, giving up two unanswered touchdowns in the third quarter. Long Beach regrouped in the fourth, outscoring Westbury 14-7.

With the win, Long Beach (5-3) finished the regular season as the fifth seed in Conference II. Playoff brackets are pending.
