Long Beach Hockey Arena To Be Renamed For Legendary Rangers Coach

A Saturday ceremony will officially unveil the Emile Francis Memorial Ice Arena.

LONG BEACH, NY — The Long Beach Municipal Ice Arena is getting renamed for legendary New York Rangers coach Emile Francis. The ceremony is scheduled for Saturday afternoon.

Francis, who died in February, was instrumental in bringing the Rangers' practice to Long Beach in the 1970s.

The new name outside the arena now bears Francis' name along with the Rangers' logo.

Francis is best known for his 10 years coaching the Rangers, including a Stanley Cup finals loss in 1972.

Francis' son Bobby will join the ceremony along with other former Rangers Brian Mullen, Ron Greschner and Nick Fotiu.
