Long Beach is a Union Town

Long Beach is a union town with one out of every six adults a union worker. And no group has benefited more from the blood, sweat and tears of organized labor than the Long Beach Board of Education.

President Patrick Gallagher was a member of the Seaford Teachers Association for much of his life and is now a member of the Adjunct Faculty Association of Nassau Community College. He receives his health insurance courtesy of the taxpayers of Seaford and a public pension from the New York State Teachers Retirement System (NYSTRS).

Vice President Dennis Ryan was a member and Vice President of the Long Beach City Schools Group B, a local of the School Administrators Association of the State of New York (SAANYS). He receives his health insurance courtesy of the taxpayers of Long Beach and a public pension from NYSTRS.

Trustee Darlene Tangney’s spouse spent most of his career as a member of the Long Beach Police Benevolent Association (PBA). She receives her health insurance courtesy of the taxpayers of Long Beach and will enjoy the fruits of her husband’s public pension.

Trustee Stewart Mininsky was a member and Vice President of the Long Beach Schools Employees Association. He receives his health insurance courtesy of the taxpayers of Long Beach and a public pension from the New York State Employees Retirement System (ERS).

Trustee Roy Lester was a member and Chief Negotiator of the Jones Beach Lifeguard Corps, a local of NYSUT. He receives his health insurance courtesy of the taxpayers of Island Park where his spouse works as a teacher and is a member of the Island Park Teachers Association. He and his spouse will enjoy public pensions from the ERS and TRS.

Makes you wonder why they are unable to successfully negotiate labor agreements with their union sisters and brothers.
