Join the Long Beach Island Landmarks Association as we tour the island of Long Beach and talk of its storied past. From the early vision of Senator Reynolds this “Riviera of the East” was transformed from a series of sand bars to a destination for the rich and famous. After visiting the site of one of the world’s largest hotels, we will stop and talk about the building of the boardwalk and the Nassau Hotel.Touring the “Historical Red Brick District”, we will point out many of the original stucco and red tiled roof homes. The tour will continue to the neighborhoods of the West End, The Walks, and the Canals where the diversity of the different sections of Long Beach are highlighted. Moving on to the former Lido Beach Hotel your narrator will speak of the large military presence on Long Beach during WWII as well as the famous Lido Golf Course, Lido Dunes, former Nike Missile Base and beach clubs. On the return, we will visit Point Lookout on the eastern tip of Long Beach.
