Long Beach Residents Approve School District Budget

Long Beach residents headed to the polls Tuesday to vote on a school budget and elect board members.

Voters in the Long Beach School District went to the polls Tuesday and approved the school budget.

The $135.2 million budget was actually a decrease from the current year's spending plan, dropping by .15 percent. Voters approved the budget 1,967 to 589. The tax levy, however, is still increasing by nearly $2 million, from $97.1 million to $99 million. It was the largest allowable levy increase under the tax cap.

Voters also cast their ballots for Board of Education Trustees. Incumbents Dr. Dennis Ryan and Maureen Vrona were returned to their seats on the board. The district did not release the number of votes they received.
