Long Beach Schools Keep Learning Alive During Summer

Kids wondered, explored and discovered through the district's Camp Invention.

From Long Beach Public Schools: Students in the Long Beach Public Schools were excited to wonder, explore and discover through Camp Invention, held at Long Beach High School. This five-day program, offered during the weeks of July 9 and July 16, provided many opportunities for inquiry-based learning and collaboration.

Camp Invention focuses on the five components of STEAM — science, technology, engineering, art and math — while encouraging creativity and critical thinking. Attendees used upcycled materials as an environmentally conscious way to experiment and explore.

This year, a total of approximately 200 Long Beach students attended either as campers, counselors or counselors-in-training. Those in grades 1-6 rotated among sessions that engaged them in hands-on activities with guidance from high school peers. Staff members throughout the district served as camp teachers.
