Long Beach Tennis Shows Garden City No Love

First and second singles players Eric Rubin and Matt Barry carry Marines to 5-2 victory.

Long Beach improved their record to 3-2 with a 5-2 match victory over Garden City on Wednesday.

Singles players Eric Rubin, Matt Barry and Ethan Bogard all beat their opponents in straight sets to help the Marines.

Rubin beat Garden City's Zach Morris (6-2, 6-2) with a blistering first serve and vicious forehands and backhands.

Barry bageled second singles player Alex Morris in the first set en route to a 6-0, 6-2 win.

Bogard had little trouble in the third singles spot winning in a decisive 6-0, 6-1 match.

The Marines pulled off a nice win in first doubles (6-4, 6-1) behind the strong play of Andrew Schnier and John Smucker.

The fourth doubles team of Russell Goetz and Brandon Sadowsky also pulled out a nice win, beating their opponents in straight sets 6-3, 6-1.

Second doubles and third doubles had a tougher day, losing their matches 0-6 ,2-6 and 0-6, 0-6 respectively.

"All of our players worked really hard today for this victory," said Long Beach head coach Sue Hirschbein. "It was a team effort out there."

The Marines next match is at Friends Academy at 4:30 p.m. Friday.
