Long Beach Welcomes New HS Principal

At a special meeting on July 22, the board of education appointed Jeffrey Myers as the new principal of Long Beach High School.

Myers joins Long Beach from Walter G. O’Connell Copiague High School, where he had served as assistant principal since 2010. In this role, Myers was responsible for the construction of the master schedule for high school staff and students; administration of the PSAT, Advanced Placement, NYSESLAT and Regents exams; and served on the school’s New Teacher and Building Safety committees, among other duties. Myers had also served as principal of Copiague’s ENL Saturday School since 2010.

Prior to his time in Copiague, Myers worked for the North Babylon Union Free School District, first as a social studies teacher at the high school and alternative high school, and later advancing to the position of the high school’s dean of discipline.

Myers holds an advanced certificate in administration from St. John’s University. He obtained both his Master of Arts in teaching social studies and his Bachelor of Arts in history from Stony Brook University. He is also a candidate for a Doctor of Education in educational administration and leadership from St. John’s.

“I am pleased to welcome Mr. Myers to Long Beach,” said Superintendent of Schools David Weiss. “I am confident that his background and skill set will be an asset to our district.”

Myers will officially assume the role of principal on Aug. 5, 2016.
