Longtime Firefighter Named Commissioner

Joseph Miller previously served as assistant chief and chief of department during his three decades at Long Beach Fire Department.

LONG BEACH, NY — Joseph Miller officially took over as commissioner of the Long Beach Fire Department 0n Wednesday.

A second-generation firefighter, Miller joined the department 30 years ago and was named assistant chief from 2014 to 2017 and chief of department from 2017 to 2019.

The new fire commissioner is a retired sergeant in the Nassau County Police Department, where he served for 29 years.
