Loop Parkway Fully Re-Opened
Repairs to drawbridge completed one day ahead of schedule.
All lanes on the Loop Parkway have been fully re-opened in both directions effective 6 a.m. Tuesday.
Long Beach commuters will get an early reprieve as the construction undertaken to reinforce the drawbridge that spans the Jones Beach Inlet was completed one day ahead of the anticipated Oct. 27 date.
"They were able to complete the work earlier than expected," said Eileen Peters, a spokeswoman for the New York State Department of Transportation, which owns and operates the drawbridge. "The Parkway was fully opened at about 6 a.m. in both directions."

The Loop Parkway is the major thoroughfare that connects Long Beach Island to the Long Island mainland. Its closure created hassles for thousands of commuters in Long Beach and the surrounding areas since the repairs began on Oct. 22.
The City of Long Beach communicated news of the Loop's re-opening to Long Beach residents via a taped phone message at approximately 10:45 a.m. Tuesday.
