My Beat, Subway to Sand

I'm a retired subway cop who patrols our sands, with our lifeguards doing all the work.

You see them every day, I've written about them here before—our lifeguards. But there is never a day at our shore that is just like the others, for our lifeguards, or us.

You frequently see fishermen too. Whether they catch something or not, they are sitting or standing where they love to be, taking in the sun and salt air. If they are lucky, maybe they'll take home some supper.

I came upon one fisherman who I met before. He and the other lovers of our shore brighten my day like the morning sun.

I "patrolled" our shore recently and found reasons to smile again and again. If you haven't, perhaps you're not paying enough attention, as I started out this sunny day.
