Honorable Mr. Mandel,
I am in receipt of the City's latest publication, Flood Awareness Bulletin. First let me thank you for not printing it in full color glossy. I can not tell you how much it irks me as a taxpayer to receive correspondence from any government entity in full color glossy much like all the junk mail I receive during election cycles. I always think it is my money and how dare they spend it so frivolously.
My main concern is that you mentioned that I receive a %10 discount on flood insurance. I have recently heard discussions that next year my flood insurance will rise to $ 9,500.00 if my main living space is not at 8 feet above sea level. You do not directly address this in your bulletin.
Additionally you mention flood protection assistance from the building department. If I call building department tomorrow exactly what kind of assistance can I expect. Map determinations and lowest level requirements seem pretty vague. What will a site visit actually entail. If I call the building department will they actually come to my home and make a qualified evaluation of any remedial actions that may be required to enhance flood protection.
Your community update left me with more questions than any answers or information I was not aware of, for example," Tide levels can fluctuate during severe storms"
The more I peruse it the more I am perplexed as to why it was actually produced and mailed to residents.
