Man Burns Wife's Hands in Oceanside Restaurant's Deep Fryer During Argument: Cops

The couple's two children were at the scene during the incident Sunday night, police say.

OCEANSIDE, NY - An Island Park man was arrested for pushing his wife toward a deep fryer and causing her to burn her hands at their Chinese restaurant in Oceanside on Sunday night, according to Nassau Police.

Xiuling Xiao, 39, was arguing with his 39-year-old wife while working at their restaurant (police did not name the restaurant) at about 8:10 p.m., police said.

He grabbed her by the hair on the back of her head and pushed her toward the boiling deep fat fryer, causing both of her hands to become immersed in the boiling oil, police said.

The couple's two children, ages 12 and 14, were at the scene during the incident, police said.

The wife, who sustained second degree burns to her hands, was taken to a local hospital for treatment, police said. No other injuries were reported.

Xiao is charged with first degree assault, second degree attempted assault and two counts of endangering the welfare of a child.
