Nassau Cop Saves Suicidal Man Who Jumped From Bridge

BREAKING: When a suicidal man jumped off a bridge with a cable around his neck, a police officer jumped into the water after him.

OCEANSIDE, NY — A heroic Nassau County police officer risked his life to save a man who jumped off a bridge in Oceanside early Wednesday.

According to police, they received a call at 12:49 a.m. for a man threatening to jump off the Atlantic Avenue/Brower Avenue Bridge. When they arrived, police saw a man holding on to the lower part of the bridge with a jumper cable wrapped around his neck. The man let go of the bridge and was hanging over the water. He lost consciousness and fell in, police said.

A police officer at the scene jumped into the water after him, pulled him to the shore and administered CPR, saving his life. The man was taken to a hospital where he was reported to be conscious and breathing. During the rescue, the police officer ingested saltwater. He was also taken to a hospital for treatment.
