Newsday: Tangney Made $315,000 in 2013! LB had Largest Staff Increase and Largest Overtime Budget on Long Island!

Newsday reported today that Long Beach Police Commissioner Mike Tangney made over $315,000 in 2013 surpassing his 2012 salary of around $312,000.

The huge salary places Tangney in 4th place on “ 2013 LI’s Total Pay Rankings” list, according to Newsday.

Newsday said, “Among town and city police chiefs and commissioners, the highest paid was Long Beach’s Michael Tangney with $315,797...”

In addition, while city hall has repeatedly stated publicly that they have drastically cut overtime costs since the administration took office in 2012, Newsday reported today that “Long Beach had the highest proportion of its salary going to overtime expenses -- more than 12 percent.” This is a stark contrast to what city hall has told residents repeatedly over the past 3 years as they’ve raised our taxes and our user fees!

The Newsday article details how many Long Island governments have reduced their work force as they try ease tax burdens on resident by tightening their fiscal belts. Yet other city governments such as Long Beach city hall, have increased their workforce. Newsday wrote, “The biggest staff reduction was in Oyster Bay, where retirements and a drop in part-time workers shrank the workforce. The biggest (staff) increase was in Long Beach.”

So while city hall raises your taxes and user fees they hire more and more friends and family and give out huge raises to their politically connected friends.
