NY Apple Core Team Moves Into EJHL Frozen Four

Local travel hockey program on brink of league championship.

The Long Beach-based NY Apple Core Junior hockey team will play in the Eastern Junior Hockey League's Frozen Four this weekend after earning three convincing wins in the first weekend of league playoffs.

The team notched victories over the New Jersey Wildcats, the Brewster Bulldogs and the New Jersey Hitmen by a combined total of 15-3.

After enjoying consecutive shutouts by Brian Walters in victories over the Wildcats and Bulldogs, Apple Core was pushed to the brink of elimination against the Hitmen. Despite squandering leads of 2-0 and 3-2, forward Mike Davie netted his second goal of the weekend with under four minutes to play to give Apple Core a berth in the Frozen Four.

Apple Core will travel to Wayne, New Jersey, to take on the New Hampshire Monarchs on Friday in the first game of the weekend. Game time is 6:30 p.m. In their only meeting of the regular season, Apple Core travelled up to New Hampshire and defeated the Monarchs, 6-3.
