Officials Announce Fresh Produce Program for Seniors in Nassau County

Starting next Thursday, income-eligible residents will be able to receive a coupon book worth $20 to use at a local Farmers' Markets.

A new program will now allow Nassau County residents ages 60 and over to buy fresh fruits and vegetables no matter their income, according to the Nassau County Executive's office.

The program will allow income-eligible residents to receive a free one-time coupon book worth $20 to use at a local Farmers’ Markets.

Eligible participants will receive one book per family per year.

The coupons are provided by the New York State Farmers’ Market Nutrition Program and will be available after Thursday, July 14 at several locations across Nassau County.

  • East Meadow Farmers’ Market, at the Cornell Cooperative Extension Nassau County on 832 Merrick Avenue on Fridays from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. until October 8.
  • Elmont - Anna House Farmstand on 2150 Hempstead Turnpike on Tuesdays from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. until September 27.
  • Farmingdale Country Fresh Farmers’ Market at the Village Green on Town Hall on 361 Main Street on Sundays from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. until November 20.
  • Freeport Youth Farmers’ Market Southeast at the Freeport Recreation Center, North Parking Lot on 130 East Merrick Road on Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. until October 29.
