Officials Announce Fresh Produce Program for Seniors in Nassau County

A new program will now allow Nassau County residents ages 60 and over to buy fresh fruits and vegetables no matter their income, according to the Nassau County Executive's office.

The program will allow income-eligible residents to receive a free one-time coupon book worth $20 to use at a local Farmers’ Markets.

Eligible participants will receive one book per family per year.

The coupons are provided by the New York State Farmers’ Market Nutrition Program and will be available after Thursday, July 14 at several locations across Nassau County.

The coupon book can be used at the following Farmers' Market:

• East Meadow Farmers’ Market, at the Cornell Cooperative Extension Nassau County on 832 Merrick Avenue on Fridays from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. until October 8.
• Elmont - Anna House Farmstand on 2150 Hempstead Turnpike on Tuesdays from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. until September 27.
• Farmingdale Country Fresh Farmers’ Market at the Village Green on Town Hall on 361 Main Street on Sundays from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. until November 20.
• Freeport Youth Farmers’ Market Southeast at the Freeport Recreation Center, North Parking Lot on 130 East Merrick Road on Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. until October 29.
• Garden City Farmers’ Market behind Supreme Court building on 101 County Seat Drive, off of Old Country Road in Mineola on Tuesdays from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. until November 22.
• Great Neck - Spinney Hill Farmers’ Market at the North Shore LIJ parking lot on 125 Community Drive on Sundays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. until October 30.
• Hempstead Yale Farm Stand at the Yale Child Care Center on 160 Baldwin Road on Wednesdays from 3:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. until September 28.
• Long Beach at the Kennedy Plaza Farmers’ Market at City Hall on 1 West Chester Street on Wednesdays and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m until November 23.
• Merrick Children’s Nest Farm Stand on 2350 Merrick Avenue on Mondays from 3:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. until September 26.
• New Cassel Youth Market at the First Baptist Church parking lot on 212 Garden Street in Westbury on Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. until October 29.
• New Hyde Park Farmers’ Market at the Municipal parking lot near Village Hall on 1441 Jericho Turnpike on Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. until November 19.
• Port Washington Organic Farmers’ Market at the Port Washington Town Dock on 347 Main Street on Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. until October 29.
• Rockville Centre Farmers’ Market at the railroad parking lot 12 on Sunrise Highway and Long Beach Road on Sundays from 7 a.m. to 12 p.m. until November 20.
• Roosevelt Community Youth Market at the Family Health Clinic parking lot on 380 Nassau Road on Sundays from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. until October 30.
• Roslyn – North Farmers’ Market at Christopher Morley Park on 500 Searingtown Road on Wednesdays from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. until November 23.
• Seaford Farmers’ Market on the east end of Seaford Railroad Station on Sunrise Highway on Saturdays from 7 a.m. to 12 p.m. until November 19.
• Williston Park Sunny Side Farmers’ Market on Copper Hill on 234 Hillside Avenue on Sundays from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. until October 30.
