• Nassau County tests water rescue drones that help save lives, fight crime (abc7ny.com) — New Nassau County water rescue and police drones will soon be helping Long Beach officers monitor crowded beaches and streets, potentially reaching emergencies in seconds. Local police say the "eye in the sky" can spot swimmers in distress, crime scenes, and dangerous gatherings, with video feeding directly to patrol cars to guide faster, safer responses for residents and visitors.

• Carey football's Justin DePietro scores five TDs in comeback win over Long Beach (newsday.com) — Long Beach High School's football team fell 34-26 to Carey in Thursday's Nassau Conference II season opener, despite leading 20-7 at halftime. Local fans saw standout performances from Long Beach players like quarterback Brody Juan and receiver Joe Henn, but a huge third quarter by Carey's Justin DePietro turned the tide and spoiled the Marines' strong start.

• Young Pentagon survivor reflects on how 9/11 experience inspired her to serve (abc7.com) — On the 25th anniversary of 9/11, a commemorative 34.3-mile run honoring the 343 fallen FDNY firefighters will begin on Long Beach at 8:46 a.m., tying the city directly into a powerful remembrance. The event features Captain Hanna Born, a former Pentagon daycare survivor whose experience as a child inspired her and her sister to serve in the military and honor those lost.
