School Year Starts Strong In Long Beach
Students, teachers and staff were all on hand and ready to get back to the grind on Sept. 4.
The 2019-20 school year had an excellent start in Long Beach on Sept. 4 when students and faculty members entered their buildings for the first day. Administrators and teachers extending warm greetings to students as they walked through the halls and into their classrooms, where they set up their school supplies, organized their desks and got to know classmates.
This school year brings numerous exciting updates including the second-year phase-in of the new elementary science curriculum and the launch of the AVID program at Long Beach High School. A robotics team is also being added, as is a junior varsity hockey team. Students will benefit from Chromebook replacements, improvements to building Wi-Fi access, upgrades to auditorium sound systems at Long Beach Middle School and the high school (and lighting at LBHS) and new Lindell School auditorium seats and flooring.
A new cafeteria wall with a transom at the high school as well as the creation of a new culinary arts classroom are expected to be completed during the school year. As safety is always a priority, multiple projects are in the works to help ensure smoother traffic flow for those entering and leaving the Lido Complex and high school.

An elementary guidance counselor, Kirstyn Golden, was added for this year, and Deborah Bernardino-Arden has taken on a new role as a district-wide elementary social worker. Partially a response to NYS mandates in guidance and mental health, both roles will provide preventative, pro-active programs for students and parents.
