Skudin Named CAA Lacrosse Scholar-Athlete of the Year

Award comes on heels of All-American and defensive player honors.

Mike Skudin of Long Beach, a senior Hosftra lacrosse defensemen, was named the 2011 Colonial Athletic Association Men's Lacrosse Scholar-Athlete
of the Year, the CAA announced Wednesday.

Skudin earned his first CAA Scholar-Athlete of the Year award. Last month, he was named to the 2011 United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association Scholar All-America Team, becoming one of 20 Division I student-athletes named
to the 2011 USILA Scholar All-America Team. He was the only CAA student-athlete named to the team.

Skudin, who picked up his first USILA All-America award with an honorable mention selection in 2011, was also named the CAA Defensive Player of the Year, as well as being voted to the All-CAA first team this season. He was the only senior on the Pride's close defensive unit that posted the top goals against average in the country.

A four-year letterman, he led the Pride's young defense with 26 ground balls and was second on the team with 16 caused turnovers while starting all 16 games for the 13-3 Pride.

He was an All-CAA second team selection in 2010, and was selected and played in the 2011 USILA-Lax World North-South Senior All-Star Classic on May 27.

Skudin also received Hofstra Athletics' Nick Colleluori Unsung Hero Award this season. He graduated in May with a degree in physical education.
