Skudin Named to All-American Lacrosse Team

Long Beach standout to play in Lax World North-South Senior All-Star Classic.

Mike Skudin of Long Beach was one of four Hofstra men’s lacrosse players named to the 2011 United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association Division I All-America Team, the USILA announced Thursday.

Skudin and fellow senior Jay Card, junior Andrew Gvozden and sophomore John Antoniades were all USILA All-America honorable mention selections in 2011.

A defenseman, Skudin earned his first All-America honor after being named CAA Defensive Player of the Year as well as being voted to the All-CAA first team this season. His All-America honor caps a tremendous week as he was named to the USILA-Lax World North-South Senior All-Star Classic and was named to the USILA Scholar All-America Team. Skudin, who graduated last weekend with a degree in physical education, is also one of 20 Division I student-athletes named to the 2011 Scholar All-America Team and is the only Colonial Athletic Association student-athlete named to the team.

Skudin, who was an All-CAA second team selection in 2010, was the only senior on the Pride's close defensive unit that posted the top goals against average (6.56 GAA) in the country through May 22. A four-year letterman, he led the Pride's young defense with 26 ground balls and was second on the team with 16 caused turnovers while starting all 16 games for the 13-3 Pride.
