Swimmer Dies In Long Beach Waters

It is the second time this week that swimmers were rescued from the waters, and the second person to die.

LONG BEACH, NY — A swimmer died in the water off Long Beach on Sunday morning — the second person to die in the city's water this week.

According to the Long Beach Fire Department, a call came in at 8:06 a.m. for multiple swimmers in distress near Monroe Boulevard. Lifeguards were first on the scene, followed soon after by fire department members.

Three people were pulled from the water. The Long Beach Police Department said that two of the swimmers suffered minor injuries and refused medical assistance. The third swimmer was in cardiac arrest and was rushed to the Long Beach Emergency Room in critical condition. They were later pronounced dead.

The police say they are still investigating.

Earlier this week, 10 people were rescued from the water near the jetty off Monroe Boulevard. Four people were hospitalized, and a fifth died.
