Thunderstorm Postpones Long Beach Football Game
Tied 21-21 at halftime, Marines look for a stronger finish come Sunday.
With thunderstorms looming, the Marines football team took to Firemen's Field in Valley Stream on what was an otherwise sunny Thursday afternoon. But by halftime, with Long Beach and Valley Stream Central tied 21-21, a torrential downpour barreled in and the game was postponed.
Before the second-half was rescheduled for 2 p.m. on Sunday, Long Beach took an early 14-0 lead, with solid plays by junior quarterback Tom Rowley and his receiving core that features senior Cedric Coad. Valley Stream struck back with their ground game that features running back Laton Butler, who ran through the Long Beach defense for three touchdowns.
As halftime neared, Long Beach was down 21-14, but quarterback Tom Rowley continued to drive his team down the field. As time expired, he ran up the middle from the 2-yard line and tied the game.
