I hope everyone is prepared for the onslaught of taxpayer funded city newsletter's that will most likely be mailed out by City Hall officials as we get closer to Election Day.
Both sides will bombard us with their messages and their promises. But what really gets me angry is when the politicians mail it to our homes using our tax dollars to pay for it!
Take the last city newsletter that we received in our mailboxes last week for example. Why was a picture of Democrat City Council Candidate Anthony Eramo's picture in the newsletter? He's not even on the city council, yet the current city hall administration managed to get his face in the newsletter and it was completely paid for with our taxpayer dollars?
As we get closer and closer to Election Day expect to see your hard earned tax money being used over and over to pay for the current administration's campaign. That in itself is something to be angry about. How can we sit back and let that happen.
A few months ago the city administration sent out a newsletter from Councilwoman Goggin, a woman who has less than one year on the city council and she wasn't even elected by voters! She was appointed by her pals on the city council after Mike Fagen was convicted. Why would they send out a newsletter from her? I think they did it to get her name into the public discussion with the hope people will elect her in November. What's even more crazy is that city hall doesn't even try to hide it. They put it right in our faces and into our mailboxes, and we pay for it.
Listen, I freely admit that I don't like taxes. But I understand that they are needed to fund the basic functions of government. What really makes me angry is when our elected officials use (actually waste) our tax money to fund their campaigns; and trust me, the flood gates will open from city hall over the next few weeks.
I understand that one city newsletter to every home in Long Beach costs $5000 for production, time, printing, copying, and mailing! So as city hall begins the mailing onslaught keep this in mind: One mailing cost taxpayers $5000, two is $10,000, three is $15,000 and on and on. Each time you get one of these newsletter from the city keep track of how much it is costing taxpayers and remember that on election day.
How low will city hall go? Let's wait and see. Let's just hope it doesn't get so blatant that city hall sends a newsletter out before Irish Day saying, "Hey, I'm Eileen Goggin and I'm Irish. Blah Blah Blah." But then again don't be surprised.
But if it happens, remember that is another $5000.00 of YOUR taxpayer money!
