Police ID Woman Fatally Struck By Car In Long Beach

BREAKING: Police say she was using the stroller to move goods, and there was no child at the scene.

UPDATE: Police have identified the woman who was killed as Deborah Batus, 63, of Long Beach

ORIGINAL STORY: A woman pushing a stroller was struck by a car and killed in Long Beach early Thursday morning.

According to the Long Beach Police Department, the woman, a 63-year-old Long Beach resident, was crossing the road at the intersection of Park Avenue and Pacific Boulevard at 6:35 a.m. when she was struck and killed. She was in the far right lane of traffic and had nearly made it to the sidewalk.

Police said that the woman was using the stroller to carry goods home from the store. There was no baby in the stroller.

The driver, another Long Beach woman in her 70s, stayed at the scene and was tested for drugs and alcohol, which came back negative. Police performed a safety check on her car, a 2016 Nissan Centra, at the scene. Long Beach police say there was no criminality in the death.
