This is an article that says renting and putting the rest of your money in the stock market is better than buying a house. I think Schiller's comparison of a house that you live in with a stock/bond investment is unfair.

JP Opinion: A stock/bond investment should be compared to an investment in income producing real estate, not a house you live in. A rental property may have other advantages: a) property values go up long term, b) rent pays the mortgage, c) depreciation & other tax benefits, d) leverage and spreading cost over 30 years with low interest rates, e) Rental income. A house that you live in does not have a positive cash flow.
