84-Year-Old Man Killed In Crash In Front Of Long Island Post Office
The fatal crash occurred in front of a Long Island post office Thursday evening, police say.

EASTPORT, NY – An 84-year-old man was killed in a two-car crash in Eastport Thursday evening, Suffolk Police said.
According to police, Gerald Bennett was driving a 2009 Honda CRV and exiting a shopping center parking lot at 25 Eastport-Manor Road when his vehicle collided with a 2008 Ford F350 that was traveling north on Eastport-Manor Road at about 5:10 p.m. Both vehicles came to rest in the parking lot of Eastport Post Office.
Bennett, of East Moriches, was transported by East Moriches Community Ambulance to Peconic Bay Medical Center in Riverhead where he was pronounced dead. The driver of the Ford, 19-year-old Dawson Everhart, of Westhampton, remained at the scene and was not injured.

Both vehicles were impounded for a safety check. No criminal charges have been filed. The investigating is continuing and police are asking anyone with information on this crash to call the Seventh Squad at 631-852-8752.
