Alzheimer's Association to offer free programs in September

Educational and social programs offered for the general public, people with dementia and their family caregivers

The Alzheimer’s Association Long Island Chapter will host the following free virtual events via Zoom in September. To register, click the links in the headlines or call the Alzheimer’s Association at 800.272.3900.

Living with Alzheimer's: For Caregivers Early Stage: 6-7 p.m. Tuesdays, Sept. 7, 14 and 21. This three-part program provides practical answers to the questions that arise in the early stage.

Healthy Living for Your Brain and Body: Tips from the Latest Research: Noon to 1 p.m. Monday, Sept. 13. Join us for a free virtual educational program with information on diet, nutrition, exercise, cognitive activity and social engagement. Get hands-on tools to develop a plan for healthy aging.

Dementia Conversations: 6:30-7:30 p.m. Monday, Sept 13. A free virtual program offering helpful tips to assist families with difficult dementia-related conversations, such as going to the doctor, deciding when to stop driving and making legal and financial plans. This program is primarily for those who have a family member or close friend beginning to experience Alzheimer’s or another dementia.

Understanding Alzheimer’s and Dementia: 1-2 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 15. Learn about the impact of Alzheimer’s, the difference between dementia and Alzheimer’s, disease stages and risk factors, current research and treatments as well as Alzheimer’s Association resources.

Effective Communication Strategies: 4-5 p.m. Monday, Sept. 20. Join us for a free virtual educational program about how communication takes place when someone has dementia. Learn to decode verbal and behavioral messages delivered by someone with dementia and identify strategies to help you connect and communicate at every stage of the disease.

Join us for a free educational program with information on diet, nutrition, exercise, cognitive activity and social engagement. Get hands-on tools to develop a plan for healthy aging.

New Advances in Alzheimer’s Treatment: 11 a.m. to noon. Thursday, Sept. 23. Learn about Aducanumab, a new advancement in Alzheimer's treatment.

Understanding Alzheimer’s and Dementia: 1-2 p.m. Friday, Sept. 24. Learn about the impact of Alzheimer’s, the difference between dementia and Alzheimer’s, disease stages and risk factors, current research and treatments as well as Alzheimer’s Association resources.

Coming in October

4th Annual Hispanic/Latinx Symposium *in person* : 9-11:30 a.m Wednesday, Oct. 6 at Alzheimer’s Association Long Island Chapter, 300 Broadhollow Road Ste LI 100, Melville, NY 11747. The symposium will educate professionals and caregivers about the impact of Alzheimer’s disease in the Hispanic/Latinx community. There will be a variety of sessions offered in both English and Spanish.
