Bellone Welcomes Teams to Suffolk Marathon
MADD and other teams will raise funds for good causes
Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone announced this week that the CHS second annual Suffolk County Marathon, Half Marathon and 5k on Oct. 30 will include several teams running for charitable causes.
While net proceeds from the race go toward veterans services, the Suffolk County marathon is also providing opportunities for teams to raise funds for their worthy causes.
Some of the teams and causes already registered include Mothers Against Drunk Driving, YMCA, Team Liberty, Rolling Thunder, the Patricia Keane deGeorge Memorial scholarship at Adelphi University College of Nursing, Homes for Our Troops and Airborne Tri-Team. These teams expect to raise thousands of dollars for their causes and will bring at least 150 runners to the race.

"We want to encourage other nonprofit groups or individuals to run and, through sponsorship, support their causes that positively impact the lives of thousands of residents in Suffolk County," the County Executive said.
“Mothers Against Drunk Driving thanks the County Executive and the Suffolk County Marathon for allowing our organization to participate in this event to help increase awareness about this horrific crime, as well as raise additional funds to support our mission," said Rich Mallow, state executive director of MADD.
