Girl Scouts of Nassau County Honors East Meadow Residents
Event Recognizes Outstanding Girl Scout Champions Whose Volunteerism Has Left a Lasting Impact on Girls All Over Nassau County

Girl Scouts of Nassau County (GSNC) recently honored East Meadow residents Linda Melaccio, Nancy Rosenbaum and Carmel Mendoza at its 2024 Annual Adult Recognitions Award Ceremony and Dinner. The annual event, which was held at the Inn at New Hyde Park on March 21, recognizes and celebrates the adult volunteers for their service to Girl Scouts of Nassau County and to their communities. Melaccio, Rosenbaum and Mendoza were among 110 honorees throughout Nassau County.
“It is because of the hard work and dedication of all our volunteers, that Girl Scouts of Nassau County can provide impactful leadership opportunities for girls in our area. Each of our Adult Recognitions Honorees has made a significant impact on our organization and help spread the Girl Scout mission,” said Randell Bynum, the CEO of Girl Scouts of Nassau County. “Thanks to their contributions, we can continue building girls of courage, confidence and character, who continue to make this world a better place.”
Melaccio was awarded the 35 Year Service Pin and 40 Year Tenure Pin. The 35 Year Service Pin serves to recognize an adult member registered with Girl Scouts of the USA for their volunteer service while the 40 Year Tenure Pin recognizes an adult member 40 total years of service in Girl Scouts. Both distinctions are some of the highest honors for a Girl Scout alum.

Rosenbaum was awarded the GSNC Courage, Confidence & Character Certificate for Volunteers. This award recognizes those that have exercised major efforts to be pioneers for instilling courage, confidence and character into the young girls of their Girl Scout troop.
Mendoza was awarded the GSNC Changemaker Award, an award given to those who worked on and were engaged with the governance of Girl Scouts’ 56th National Council Session. These volunteers, as changemakers, ensured that GSNC’s voice was represented in the decision making and evolution of the Girl Scout Movement, a movement that Mendoza has dedicated much of her life and experiences to. Mendoza was also awarded the GSUSA Thanks Badge II, which honors an individual whose ongoing commitment, leadership, and service have had an exceptional, measurable impact on meeting the mission-delivery goals and priorities of the entire council or the entire Girl Scout Movement.
