Suffolk County Team Of The Week: Huntington, Babylon And Bay Shore Headline Big Week

A Bay Shore football standout was recognized while Babylon and Huntington athletes continued a strong spring.

SUFFOLK COUNTY, NY — Suffolk County schools continued celebrating standout student-athletes and championship performances this week, highlighted by scholar-athlete honors in Bay Shore, county titles in Babylon and sportsmanship recognition in Huntington.

Bay Shore Football Recognition

Bay Shore varsity football player Antonio Marco was named a Scholar Athlete by the Suffolk Chapter of the National Football Foundation during a recent awards ceremony honoring top student-athletes from across Suffolk County.

Babylon Celebrates County Champions

Meanwhile, Babylon Union Free School District celebrated a dominant winter sports season during its April Board of Education meeting, honoring student-athletes for county and state-level achievements.

The varsity girls basketball team captured the Suffolk County Class B Championship following a strong postseason run, while senior wrestlers Erik Desmond and Lucas Norinder each won Suffolk County titles. Desmond later placed sixth at the New York State Championships.

“These student-athletes and their coaches put in a tremendous amount of hard work and displayed major talent this season,” District Director of Health, PE and Athletics Michael DeJoseph said. “Their discipline and commitment to excellence truly embodied what it means to be a Babylon Panther.”

Huntington Earns Sportsmanship Honors

In Huntington, seven varsity, junior varsity and Finley winter athletic teams earned Section XI Sportsmanship Awards following ratings submitted throughout the season by opposing coaches.

Award-winning teams included the JV boys basketball team, Finley “White” and Finley “Blue” boys basketball teams, Finley “White” and Finley “Blue” girls basketball teams, varsity girls fencing and varsity boys swimming.

“Huntington strives to provide the most student-focused athletic experience available in any school district in the country,” the district said in announcing the honors.
