Owner Moved, Now Senior Dog Beau Needs A Retirement Home, 'Not A Kennel'

PORT WASHINGTON, NY — After spending 12 years with one family, gentle Beau is looking for a home again after his owner moved to housing that doesn't allow pets.

Beau was adopted from North Shore Animal League America in December 2014 but returned to the shelter in May 2026 after his owner moved.

Beau is gentle and sweet, housebroken, familiar with basic commands, and a big fan of treats, the shelter said.

Shelter staff said Beau is struggling in the kennel and hope to find him a loving, adults-only home where he can enjoy his golden years as the only pet.

Although he is a bit tactile-sensitive and enjoys being pet on his own terms, he will do well with experienced owners who can give him patience and understanding, the shelter said.

With patience, positive reinforcement and an experienced owner, the shelter believes Beau will reward his new family with the loyalty and companionship he's shown throughout his life.
