Walt Whitman and Bellport athletes delivered an undefeated season, county medals, and a state track berth in a standout County sports week.

SUFFOLK COUNTY, NY โ Student-athletes across Suffolk County closed out the week with an undefeated basketball season, county championship fencing performances and a relay team punching its ticket to the state track and field championships.
Bellport Girls Relay Team Heads To State Championships
Bellport High Schoolโs girls varsity track and field 4x200-meter relay team is headed to the New York State Track and Field Championships on March 6 at the Ocean Breeze track facility after a first-place Division I finish at the Section XI state qualifiers.

The relay team of Ava Cooley, Shania Creary, Olivia Francis and Arielle Ross secured its state berth with a time of 1:48.57. District officials congratulated the athletes and wished them continued success at the state meet.

The Walt Whitman girls varsity basketball team finished league play unbeaten after defeating Sachem East this weekend, improving to 18-1 overall.
Jaz Julien led the Wildcats with 19 points and nine rebounds, while Madison Richter added nine points and three blocked shots. Whitmanโs defense proved pivotal, forcing 27 turnovers. Trailing by one point with 2:30 remaining, the Wildcats closed the game on a 10-0 run to secure the victory and cap an undefeated league season.
Walt Whitman Fencers Earn County Medals, All-Star Spots
Whitmanโs varsity fencing team also turned in strong performances at the individual Suffolk County Championships.
Patrick Klinkenberg captured silver in menโs epee, Mackenzie Marsden earned bronze in womenโs foil, and Sophia Vitevitch placed fifth in womenโs epee. Klinkenberg and Marsden both qualified for the All-Star Game, marking a successful postseason showing for the Wildcats.
