SUFFOLK COUNTY, NY โ€” Student-athletes from Walt Whitman and John Glenn highlighted the week with a Suffolk County basketball playoff win and All-State football recognition.

Walt Whitman Boys Basketball Advances To Suffolk County Semifinals

The Walt Whitman boys varsity basketball team advanced to the Suffolk County Class AAA semifinals following a 71-63 quarterfinal win over Copiague.

With the victory, the Wildcats move on to face William Floyd in the semifinal round on Thursday, Feb. 26 as they continue their postseason run.

John Glenn Seniors Earn All-State Football Honors

Two Elwood-John H. Glenn High School seniors were recently named to the New York State Sportswriters Associationโ€™s 2025-2026 Class B All-State football team.

Joseph Competiello earned third-team All-State honors on offense, while Luca Palisciano received fifth-team recognition on defense following a strong season for the Knights.

โ€œThese are two great senior leaders, and obviously very good football players,โ€ coach TJ Brocking said. โ€œTheir leadership made everyone else around them better.โ€

Competiello played quarterback and defensive back this past season.

โ€œI was super honored to earn this award,โ€ Competiello said. โ€œWe worked very hard for it, had a great season, and didnโ€™t let adversity get in our way. We came together as a team.โ€

Palasciano anchored the Knightsโ€™ offensive and defensive lines.

โ€œI was also very honored to receive this award,โ€ Palasciano said. โ€œI feel like it was well deserved, and Iโ€™m thankful for our coach for everything he did for us this year, pushing us throughout the summer and during workouts.โ€
