This past weekend, I had the honor of riding alongside something special—not just a team, but a movement. I joined the Westhampton High School girls lacrosse team on their trip to New Canaan, New York where they were set to face the Rams….the second-ranked team in the region.
On paper, it looked like an uphill battle. Their opponent was bigger, ranked higher, and carried all the hype. It had the makings of a David vs. Goliath matchup. But from the moment we stepped off the bus, I knew something different was in the air. From the back of that bus, I heard one of the girls say, “We’re gonna make history.”
And let me tell you something—that’s exactly what they did.

The game was intense. Every minute was a grind. Westhampton found themselves matched against a powerhouse, and at several points it looked like their opponent would pull away with the win but these girls never flinched. They played with heart. With precision. With unity. And when the final whistle blew, the score was 9–9. A tie. Overtime was looming, and the tension was real. Then came the moment that changed everything.
One of Westhampton’s players saw something no one else did—a defender who lost focus for just a split second. She seized the opportunity, took the shot, and scored the game-winning goal. Westhampton wins. But here’s what impressed me the most—and why this story needs to be told far beyond a scoreboard. There were no complaints. No drama. No finger-pointing.

What I witnessed was a team that showed up with class, confidence, and a commitment to each other. It wasn’t just about talent—it was about mentality. In an age when negativity often steals the spotlight, these young women showed us what grit, focus, and leadership look like. They reminded us that success isn’t about rankings or predictions—it’s about who shows up when it matters most.
To the Westhampton girls lacrosse team: Thank you. You didn’t just win a game—you inspired a community. You made history!
