Homeless Man, 70, Arrested In Lower East Side Stabbing Death

Arturo Valdez was found with a stab wound to his chest inside Sara D. Roosevelt Park near Chrystie and East Houston streets Saturday.

LOWER EAST SIDE, NY — A 70-year-old homeless man has been arrested and charged with murder in the stabbing death of a second homeless man on the Lower East Side. Arturo Valdez, 23, was found with a stab wound to his chest inside Sara D. Roosevelt Park near Chrystie and East Houston streets Saturday afternoon. He was later pronounced dead at Beth Israel Hospital.

On Sunday, police announced that Larry Fullewellen had been arrested and charged with second-degree murder. The New York Daily News reported, citing law enforcement sources, that Fullewellen was arrested at Port Authority Bus Terminal and was carrying a bloody knife at the time.

Witnesses told the Daily News that Valdez was yelling at a second man about a debt he was owed just before the stabbing. The second man was reportedly with two other men at the time.
