New Mediterranean Restaurant, Cavalier, Opens In Chinatown

NEW YORK CITY — A new Mediterranean cuisine restaurant has opened in Chinatown.

Cavalier is now open at 1 East Broadway in Chinatown, bringing a rustic Mediterranean menu to the neighborhood from Executive Chef and partner Mason Lindahl.

Lindahl launched the restaurant with partners Yasmin Kaytmaz and Tate Jackson.

The menu features Mediterranean dishes with influences from Kaytmaz’s Turkish heritage, including Baked Lavash Bread with tomato butter and eggplant, Cockles and Sujuk with borlotti beans, Quail and Lemon Risotto, Roasted Sumac Chicken and Stewed Lamb & Beef Meatballs. Desserts include Saffron Poached Pears, sour cherry Pavlova and Chocolate Gateau Breton.

The wine program is led by Lauren McPhate of Tribeca Wine Merchants and focuses on high-quality wines, including bottles priced under $100. Cocktails incorporate fortified wines, vermouths and aperitifs.

Designed by Jack McCready, the 48-seat restaurant features black leather booths, stainless steel accents, Venetian plaster walls, a silver-leaf ceiling and a green leather bar.

The space also includes contemporary artwork curated by fine art dealer Alex Adler.

Cavalier is open Thursday through Saturday from 5 p.m. to 2 a.m. and Sunday through Wednesday from 5 p.m. to midnight.
