NYPD Searching for Man Who Slashed Victim With Box Cutter in Columbus Park

The incident happened at 10:40 p.m. Saturday night, across the street from the NYPD Headquarters.

CHINATOWN, NY — The NYPD is asking for help identifying an individual wanted for questioning in regards to an assault that occurred across the street from the NYPD Headquarters in Columbus Park on Aug. 27.

At 10:40 p.m., a 36-year-old male victim reported sitting on a park bench at Columbus Park when he was approached by an individual who slashed him with a box cutter, police said. The attack caused a laceration to the victim's arm. He was brought to New York Presbyterian Hospital in stable condition, police said.

The individual is described as a black man, standing approximately 5-foot-8 and about 180 pounds, police said. He was last seen wearing a gray tank top. The surveillance photos below were captured as the suspect entered the Chambers Street subway station after the incident, police said.
