73-Year-Old West Hempstead Woman Robbed by 3 Men at Her Home

Police say the woman let one man inside believing he was a worker coming to do repairs Friday afternoon.

WEST HEMPSTEAD, NY - Police are searching for three men who robbed a 73-year-old woman at her West Hempstead home Friday afternoon.

According to police, as the woman was at her Wildwood Road home waiting for a company to arrive to do repairs, a man rang the doorbell around 2:45 p.m.

The woman, believing the man to be a worker, let him in through the garage. When the man asked to use the bathroom, the woman escorted him into the house and then back to the garage.

Upon entering the garage, the woman observed a second man holding what appeared to be black semi-automatic firearm who stated, “Give me all the money,” police said.

The woman then observed a third man wearing a mask exit the home from through the garage with the first man carrying a garment bag filled with an undetermined amount of jewelry and cash, police said.

All three men fled scene in a blue older model Chevrolet toward the Southern State Parkway. No injuries were reported.

Police released the following descriptions of the robbers:

#1- white, in his 30s, tall, wearing a grey jacket and light blue jeans

#2- black, in his mid-20s, tall, wearing a black leather jacket, with black hair and was armed with a black semi-automatic firearm

#3- white, blonde hair and was wearing a mask

Police are asking anyone with information regarding the robbery to contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS. All callers will remain anonymous.
